As the Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10 approaches, the excitement surrounding Samsung’s anticipated Galaxy Ring is being tempered by recent leaks regarding its pricing. According to several sources, the Galaxy Ring could launch in Europe at a significantly higher price than initially expected.
A report by Dealabs, suggests that the Galaxy Ring will be priced at €449 in France. This is considerably higher than the starting price of its main competitor, the Oura Ring, which begins at $299 in the US and €399 in Europe. If these figures are accurate, the Galaxy Ring could launch in the US priced between $350 and $450, much higher than the anticipated $300 starting price.
The Oura Ring’s price can escalate to $550 depending on style and color, and it requires an annual subscription fee of approximately $70 to access all health insights. In contrast, Samsung is not expected to charge a subscription fee for the Galaxy Ring initially, which might justify the higher upfront cost. However, Samsung has hinted that some of its Samsung Health and Galaxy AI features might eventually be offered through a subscription model.
The Galaxy Ring is expected to be available in nine sizes (5 to 13) and three colors (black, silver, and gold). It is rumored to go on sale in France and Europe starting July 19, with a similar release schedule anticipated for the US.
Previous leaks had suggested a more reasonable price range of $300-$350 for the Galaxy Ring, which would make it competitive with the cheaper options in the smart ring market. The higher-than-expected pricing could pose a challenge for Samsung, as it will need to convince consumers of the ring’s value compared to existing options like the Oura Ring.
Samsung is expected to push the health and fitness features of the Galaxy Ring heavily. While the current model won’t include features like streaming music or handling calls, future iterations might expand in functionality. A recent Samsung patent spotted by 91mobiles hints at a smart ring with a display for notifications and fitness stats, potentially broadening its appeal.
As the official launch date nears, the leaked pricing of the Galaxy Ring has certainly stirred up conversations. Samsung will need to effectively justify the higher price tag by highlighting the unique features and benefits of the Galaxy Ring to attract early adopters and enthusiasts. With the Galaxy Unpacked event just around the corner, all eyes will be on Samsung to see how it positions its first smart ring in the competitive wearable market.
