If you’ve been holding out for the latest Apple Watch, get ready for some exciting updates this fall. Apple is gearing up for the release of the Apple Watch Series 10, promising a bigger screen, a thinner design, and faster performance. However, some anticipated health features might not make it this year.
Apple is set to introduce significant changes with the Apple Watch Series 10. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, both models in the Series 10 lineup, codenamed N217 and N218, will feature larger screens. The bigger model will sport a 2-inch display, slightly larger than the Apple Watch Ultra’s 1.93-inch screen. Despite these size changes, the overall design is expected to remain similar to previous models but thinner.
Performance upgrades are also on the horizon. The Series 10 and the new Apple Watch Ultra 3 will come equipped with a more powerful processor. While this sets the stage for potential AI enhancements in the future, there are no immediate plans to integrate the full suite of Apple Intelligence features into the Apple Watch just yet.
One of the most anticipated aspects of the Apple Watch Series 10 has been its new health features. Previous reports suggested that blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection were in the works. Unfortunately, these features have hit some roadblocks.
Apple has been working on technology to monitor blood pressure, but reliability issues during testing might delay its release. Even when it does become available, it won’t provide exact systolic and diastolic readings. Instead, it will show trends over time, similar to the body temperature tracking currently available on Apple Watches.
Sleep apnea detection, tied to blood oxygen saturation data, faces even more significant challenges. Due to an ongoing legal dispute, current Apple Watch models in the United States do not offer blood oxygen monitoring. Apple will need to resolve this issue or find a workaround, which could lead to further delays.
Is This the Apple Watch X?
With the Apple Watch nearing its 10th anniversary, there’s speculation about whether the Series 10 will be branded as an anniversary edition, potentially named the Apple Watch X. However, it’s unclear if Apple will choose to highlight this milestone this year or wait until 2025 for a more significant overhaul.
In addition to the Series 10, Apple is also working on other updates. The company continues to explore 3D-printing the chassis for some models, which could speed up production and be more environmentally friendly. Additionally, a new version of the budget-friendly Apple Watch SE is in the works, possibly featuring a rigid plastic shell instead of aluminum to reduce costs.
The Apple Watch Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 are expected to be announced in September alongside the iPhone 16. While some health features may be delayed, the bigger screens, thinner design, and faster performance promise to make the wait worthwhile.
