Are you excited about the new Siri upgrade? Well, you might have to hold that excitement a bit longer. Apple’s upcoming big update for Siri, part of its Apple Intelligence initiative, won’t be rolling out fully until 2025.
The iOS 18 betas have teased a lot of cool new features, but the real game-changer we’re all waiting for is the significant upgrade to Siri. Leaks before WWDC gave us a sneak peek into what’s coming. Siri will have a much better understanding of context, people, events, and locations, making it way more useful and human-like.
Imagine asking Siri to:
- “Share the photos from last Sunday’s party with Emma.”
- “Set a reminder for 7 minutes. Actually, make that 10.”
- “Turn on the living room lights,” followed by, “Oh, and dim them to 60%.”
- “Send this article [the one you’re viewing in the app] to Max.”
These are just a few examples of how the new Siri will function. It sounds amazing, right? But here’s the catch—these features won’t officially launch until spring 2025.
What’s Coming and When?
While we’re getting new iPhones in September, and Apple will likely highlight some Apple Intelligence features, the full Siri upgrade will take some time. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, most of the Siri improvements are set for a 2025 release, specifically in the spring.
Even if you’re on the developer beta of iOS 18, you won’t get to use the new Siri this year. The new Siri features will enter beta testing for developers in January 2024 and will likely debut publicly around springtime as part of an iOS 18.4 upgrade.
What to Expect in September?
Don’t worry, though. There are still some exciting updates coming to Siri this fall:
- ChatGPT Integration: Apple has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT technology into Siri. This will boost Siri’s generative AI capabilities, allowing it to handle more complex tasks and provide sophisticated responses.
- New Design: The revamped Siri will feature a new design with a glowing light that wraps around the screen edges when activated, replacing the old circle graphic.
- Deeper Product Knowledge: Siri will be able to give you basic tech support and more in-depth product information.
What Devices Will Feature the New Siri?
The advanced Siri experience will be available exclusively on the latest devices. This includes:
- iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPads and Macs equipped with M1 chips or later
So, while the big Siri upgrade is still a bit down the road, there’s plenty to look forward to. The improvements promise to make Siri a much more capable and contextually aware assistant. If you’re a developer, you’ll get a sneak peek in January, but for the rest of us, spring 2025 is when the full experience will roll out. Until then, the upcoming features in September should keep us excited.
